How do I find out if my Trombone has a lacquer or silver plated finish?
I have a trombone and don’t know if it has a lacquer finish or silver plating and what type of polish can I use?
Silver tarnishes. If the trombone hasn’t tarnished, chances are it is not silver or it has a lacquer over the silver. Most likely it’s chrome.
As for polishing the trombone, I would just use Microfiber cloths and water. I wouldn’t use anything abrasive that might scratch it, and I wouldn’t use harsh chemicals since you put part of the instrument in your mouth.
You can buy Microfibers at Walmart, Target, Kmart, Home Depot, Lowes, and most dollar stores.
Just wash the trombone with a wet microfiber cloth and then buff it dry with a dry one.
